A video crossed our feed recently from a recruiting account with over 100,000 followers, and most of what it said about Division III scholarships was wrong. That's the problem with lumping over 200 Division III schools into one process, they don't all work the same way, and getting the basics wrong misleads a lot of families at once.
Here's the biggest one: Division III schools have zero athletic scholarship dollars. Not "not much," zero. By rule, that's what makes a school Division III instead of Division II. If a program is handing out money from its own athletic budget, it isn't Division III.
The other myth worth killing: the idea that a coach who "really wants you" can just get admissions or financial aid to hand over more money. For the vast majority of athletes, that's not how it works. Most Division III aid is academic and need-based, tied to your GPA, test scores, and FAFSA, not to how much a coach likes your film.

D3 aid comes from two places: academic merit and need-based (FAFSA) aid.
A coach can advocate for you, but admissions decides who gets in, not the coaching staff.
Coaches can point you toward other scholarships the school offers, that's different from athletic money.
