Fit Matters More Than Level

I’ve seen athletes chase the highest level possible (instead of best fit) — only to end up unhappy, benched, or in the next wave of the transfer portal. Fit may be different for everyone, but it is important to really consider what will make you most happy throughout your four years in college. The right fit will give you proper development and support and offer an overall positive experience and a degree you will be proud of. Take some time to consider if you will be most happy at the highest level with potentially no play time or going somewhere where you can be an immediate and integral part of the program success. Some other factors that should be considered in what makes the ‘perfect fit’ rather than strictly basing your school list off division/conference/rankings: distance from home, desired majors, relationship with coaches and players. Choose the place where you can grow, not just the place that sounds the most impressive.

Overall, the recruiting process is different for all programs and all athletes, but it should be an enjoyable and exciting experience. It is a great time to self-reflect, mature, build relationships, and learn about many different universities and collegiate programs. I am a firm believer that there is a home for everyone and am excited to have a small impact in your recruiting journey. 😊
