After watching thousands of highlight videos, here’s the truth:
Coaches don’t watch long videos
Coaches don’t want fancy edits
Coaches don’t need loud music
Coaches don’t want slow-motion clips
They want:
Your best plays first
Clear angles
Game speed
For the most part, I could get a pretty good eval on an athlete after the first few clips of their highlight reel – what are you trying to showcase to coaches in your first few clips? Every coach may be looking at slightly different technique or wants when it comes to highlight reels by positions, but for the most part – Hitters: how hard can you hit and how high can you jump? Setters: can you keep tempo & location? Liberos: are you a simple passer & rangy defender?
